Our street lamps continue to operate using traditional mechanical timers, which are manually wound and adjusted every two weeks to account for changing daylight hours. β°
The winding programme takes the team around three days to complete and allows time not only to adjust the clocks, but also:
π Oil moving parts where required
π Carry out routine checks
πReplace any damaged mantles
π¨Following the high winds over the weekend, you may notice that more lamps than usual are not lit. This is largely due to pilot lights being extinguished, combined with the additional work required to complete the clock adjustments following the end of British Summer Time.
From Thursday, once the winding programme has been completed, the lamps will switch on at approximately 5:00pm and switch off at 6:35am.
Please remember that, due to the mechanical nature of the timers, each lamp keeps time slightly differently. As a result, some lamps may come on a few minutes earlier or later than others on the same street. The timings are adjusted every two weeks to reflect the changing sunrise and sunset times throughout the year. π
Thank you for your patience while the team completes the adjustments and relights any pilot lights affected by the recent weather.
